A meticulous study of light and shadow, this drawing captures the surface contours of arms, head and drapery. The white chalk highlights on gray paper are handled with a sure technique and molds the light in tones of delicate or dark gray.
Hopper is here working out various ideas for the placement of the arm and hand in preparation for a future painting.
He sketches two views of the sitters arm and shoulder from the side and the back, along with one version of the head in profile. RPM |
