This painting was acquired directly from Mark Kostabi on July 25, 2001 at his studio in Little Italy in New York City. The painting had just been finished and he had not even named the painting. It has always been his custom to have each painting viewed by a panel of judges, who review several names submitted by friends, museum directors, authors, dealers and other artists, and each judge votes and decides the name of each painting. Since this painting is an homage to Giorgio de Chirico, the father of surrealism, it was named "The Weight of Departure". |
